Hi, thanks for coming.
I’m Shizuka, an emerging mystery writer and the 2022 winner of Sisters in Crime’s Eleanor Taylor Bland Award for Crime Fiction Writers of Color.
My novel, Murder in Tokyo, is set in a thriving residential district of Tokyo. Families live side by side with aging manga artists in this neighborhood of old shopping streets and backstreet alleys.
Ayu Amita, a Japanese American teen, considers herself lucky to land here after losing her parents. She loves the stunning park, the temple dedicated to a jealous goddess, and the comic shop where she works as one of the cosplay staffers. But her new life is shattered when her boyfriend is arrested for a classmate’s murder. She soon learns that in Japan, if someone is tried, they are almost always convicted. Ayu won't let that happen to her boyfriend.
With the help of her friends and hacktivist cousin, she starts hunting for the real killer. To close in on the truth, she’ll have to abandon the good Japanese girl she’s been trying to become and embrace the critical New Yorker she used to be.
I’m currently seeking representation. If Murder in Tokyo sounds interesting to you, please drop me a line.
